September 19, 2015

Walla Walla Point Park, Wenatchee

This was an absolultely beautiful event!  We had over 125 people (from as far as North Dakota, Federal Way and a large group from Moses Lake) who came together as a new family, and it was very heartwarming.

The day was not sunny, but very pleasant – pleasant enough that we actually ran out of short sleeved memorial t-shirts.  The wind was still and the beautiful Columbia River was a joy to walk along.

After our opening ceremony we took a gentle walk through the beautiful archway to the tune of “Silver Hills” (written by a 9 year old boy from Canada) and Highland Cathedral played by bagpipes, and it just filled our hearts with purpose and calmness.  We returned to select a balloon of a color that our child would enjoy and wrote a special, personal message on the balloon.  We gathered on the open lawn and with absolute non-precision as a group, we released our balloons and could not take our eyes off of them until they disappeared “way up there.”  They ascended together – it was amazing.  Be sure to browse through the picture gallery below.

We enjoyed our catered lunch, and actually ran out of food since we had so many people with us.  Then we relaxed to enjoy the raffle, including the grand prize of the beautifully hand-crafted quilt won by a special member of our Compassionate Friends Family and finally said good-bye to our new friends.  What a Day!

We would like to thank all of our sponsors who graciously sent us a check or a raffle item to support our Walk – you will find their names listed below.  If you happen to be doing some business with them, be sure to let them know that you are a member of this group and appreciate their support.

This was an event to honor all of our children, no matter what age or from what cause, and to give HOPE to our families and friends that:

We need not walk alone!

We are The Compassionate Friends.
